Taking It Off... – Week 2

So I made it through the second week and this week was a bit of a challenge but also in reality a test of character. Renee, my personal trainer was away this week, so I was flying solo. It meant that I had to muster the motivation and commitment to push through the workouts on my own, and I fell down at the first hurdle. On Wednesday afternoon I went to the gym after a tough day at work. I wasn’t feeling motivated and that coupled with a crowded gym made it easy to make excuses as to why I couldn’t train properly. So that’s what I did – made excuses and left. I reckon I got about 5 minutes down the road before the guilt started to set in. I was disappointed with myself - so much so that I had a sleepless night.

This lapse made me think of something Shannan had said and it went along the lines of “everybody falls down, but the true test of character is how you pick yourself up”. It reminded me of a line from the sixth installment of the Rocky franchise where Rocky says to his son, “it’s not about how hard you can hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward”. So, I got up on Thursday morning and hit the gym hard! Not only did I smash through that day’s session, but I followed up with a repeat of the previous night’s workout, and this time I did it properly. I also backed up that night for an extra boxing class. Boy did it feel good! The rest of the week went smoothly from there. I even had the added bonus of my Saturday 4.5 kilometre beach walk turning into a 7 kilometre effort because I lost my house keys on the beach and had to back track looking for them!

On the plus side, I stuck to the eating plan religiously and as a result, I lost 2.7 kilos for the week. Not as impressive as last week’s 5.7 kilos and not my aim of a minimum 3 kilos per week, but satisfying nonetheless. Bring on round three!
